I’m Steven, a 23-year-old who is no stranger to hard work and resilience. I juggle two jobs and live independently, but six months ago, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). In a heartbeat, I was thrown into a world of uncertainty, doctors’ appointments, and intensive treatments. I had to face radiation therapy, surgeries, and the challenge of missing work ― all while trying to keep life moving forward.
But during those grueling months, something remarkable happened. I discovered a calling. I realized that my experience could serve a purpose far beyond myself, so I made the decision to pursue a career in healthcare. I applied to school, and soon I’ll be specializing in this field to help others who are going through what I went through.
Today, I am grateful to stand before you in complete remission, ready to share my story. I want to be a voice for others, especially young people facing blood cancers. Too many of us feel isolated by our diagnosis, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Together, we can create a community where no one faces these challenges alone.
