My husband, Frank, was a 40-year-old, hard-working family man and the sole provider for me and our two children when his world was turned upside down by a routine blood test showing he had acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This was a nightmare for all.

My son, AJ, was diagnosed with leukemia on September 23, 2014, and from then on, our life changed. AJ had bumps, turns, and stops during his treatment, but we were lucky to have found The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) about a year into his 3¼-year treatment protocol.

It felt just like any other Saturday after my dad's birthday. He got his annual checkup and bloodwork, and we would all celebrate our April birthdays around Easter Sunday. But this turned into something unlike any other Saturday. His cell phone rang, and everything changed.
