My chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) journey has just begun. I was diagnosed in December 2024 originally by my primary care physician and was quickly referred to an oncologist. I chose to go to a hematologist at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. A bone marrow biopsy was performed within a few weeks, which confirmed I had an aggressive form of CLL. I was placed on “watch and wait” for the first four months. However, my lab work and extreme fatigue indicated starting treatment at the end of May. I was referred to Blood Cancer United by my hematologist after the confirmed diagnosis. I was obviously very scared and uncertain about the diagnosis. When I called Blood Cancer United, they were extremely helpful. I received a grant, which has helped immensely with the unforeseen bills that quickly accumulated. I was also matched with a mentor who had the same diagnosis and was on the same treatment as me. Speaking with the mentor brought me so much strength and hope. I cannot thank this organization enough for all the help they have given me in the short period of time I've been on this journey.
