Over two years ago, I noticed a lump on my neck while working out at the gym. I covered it with my locks while it grew, and others appeared all over my neck and chest. I didn't have insurance and was too afraid/ashamed to tell anyone in my community. In that time, I also lost 40 pounds. A year later, after losing hours at my part-time job, I was able to get Medicaid. When I went in for my physical, I showed my doctor the lumps, and she sent me for an ultrasound and X-ray the next day. A day later, she told me to go to the ER because my iron was terribly low. I spent three weeks in the hospital before being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). The team at Weill Cornell took great care of me and supported me through six months of chemotherapy. My social worker introduced me to Blood Cancer United. They sent me a care package, including a journal I still use. They provided a small grant and a ton of resources. Because of their weekly chatroom, I learned about the Young Adult Cancer Camp and met so many more wonderful people there this year. I'm grateful to Weill Cornell, Blood Cancer United, the cancer community, and my friends and family for supporting me through my healing.
