My journey with blood cancer was less devastating than it is for many others. It began in 2005 with a diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Four years later, in 2009, I underwent treatment consisting of three weeklong rounds of FCR. While I am not cured, my numbers remain low and stable, leaving me with no major physical concerns beyond a compromised immune system.
What makes my story worth sharing, however, isn't just the diagnosis—it’s what came next. Getting involved with Blood Cancer United (formerly LLS) changed everything. Through them, I found a meaningful way to channel my diagnosis into active care and support for others facing harder battles. Joining Team In Training (TNT) gave me even more: measurable health benefits, lifelong friendships, and achievements I’m deeply proud of. Ultimately, I didn't just survive blood cancer,I found a path to a richer, more fulfilling life.
Since 2010, I have been an active volunteer in the region as a board member, as well as a Team In Training coach, captain, and participant in numerous cycling, running, triathlon, climbing, and hiking campaigns.
