Fertility is one of the most important things to patients as they enter survivorship after cancer CAR T-cell therapy.
This is especially true for survivors of childhood cancer, who have their reproductive years ahead of them. Advances in cancer immunotherapy are changing the landscape for cancer care and turning previously incurable patients into long-term survivors.
The effect of CAR T-cell therapy on long-term fertility outcomes is currently unknown, as late effects of CAR T-cell therapy have not been widely studied. Indeed, many CAR T-cell recipients do not receive any counseling about fertility, and there is very little evidence upon which to generate guidelines for the management of fertility concerns for CAR T-cell recipients.
In a multi-institution collaborative study, Blood Cancer United is partnering with University of Florida and Moffitt Cancer Center to examine the impact of CAR T-cells on fertility and reproductive health in survivors of CAR T-cell therapy using a survey directed at patients.
