Welcome to the fourth week of Pen My Path! Please watch this week’s video before proceeding with this activity. The focus for this week is Affirmative Writing. Affirmative Writing is a positive way to focus on our strengths, talents or gifts. As a reminder, you do not have to share what you write, only your reflections. We suggest that you write about for 30 minutes this week.
Part One
Take a moment to list your personal strengths, as defined in the video. Then, write a story about how you used one or more of these strengths during a challenging time. This could be a challenging situation at work or a situation with a family member or friend. You may also consider writing about a strength you exhibited during a challenge with cancer, whether before, during, or after treatment. Include in your story how you viewed your ability to apply your strengths to get yourself through a difficult time.
Part Two
When engaging in affirmative writing, take the time to focus on all the good in your life. For Part Two, describe a recent positive experience. This could be a pleasant physical sensation, a renewed sense of purpose, a relationship with a close friend, or simply being in a satisfying environment. Recall your feelings about the positive experience as you write. Describe how this experience made a difference in your life or the life of others, and the benefits you gained from the experience. Then, describe how writing about this experience makes you feel. Absorb the healthful benefits of this memory by visualizing this experience warming you like a blanket that covers you with good feelings.
Please Share Your Reflections
When you are finished writing, in the comment space below or in the Pen My Path Expressive Writing Fall Workshop group space section, share a reflection of how your writing went today.
Please be sure to take the feedback survey on this week’s writing activity, available this Sunday, October 23rd on your home page.
