My grandfather was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and watching him fight blood cancer was one of the hardest things my family has ever experienced. He was an incredibly caring and selfless person who was always there for the people he loved. He wanted to help others whenever he could.
After we lost him this past June, I knew I wanted to find a way to honor him and the kind of person he was. I wanted to run the Boston Marathon in his honor and turn my grief into something positive — something that could help other people and families going through what mine did.
Every mile I run will be for my grandfather and for the people who are still fighting. I hope that through fundraising for Blood Cancer United, I can carry on his legacy of helping others while keeping his memory with me every step of the way.
