I am so grateful for the information Blood Cancer United provided during my battles. I had never known anyone diagnosed with leukemia, so the information binder provided by Blood Cancer United (formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) helped me feel more prepared for the battles ahead. In 2017, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) at 18 years old, right before I was supposed to start college. I entered remission before relapsing in 2019. Throughout my battles, I experienced several complications, and I also survived septic shock and heart failure. During my second battle, I received a stem cell transplant and am now a two-time cancer survivor. I was able to attend college virtually throughout this time. School meant so much to me, and, along with my loved ones, it gave me the motivation I needed to stay positive and keep going. I am now seven years out from transplant. I have spoken publicly about my story and pursued a career in a nonprofit organization geared toward patient safety, as well as a music career teaching kids. I want to continue to share my story and work directly with patients and survivors to inspire hope that life on the other side of cancer is beautiful, and there is so much support for the journey.
