Blood Cancer United

My name is Jaime Fernandez and I am a Clinical Social Worker with UCI Health. I have the pleasure and honor of working with individuals diagnosed with blood cancers. Supporting my patients and their loved ones as they navigate these diagnoses has become my driving force. I have been a social worker for nine years now and it wasn't until I moved to UCI's Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and began working with this population, that I gained a new appreciation for what I do. I feel that my prior experience of working with trauma victims has prepared me for the traumatic experience that being diagnosed with blood cancer can be.

Working with this population has also afforded me the opportunity to collaborate with LLS and join in on two of their invaluable community programs as a guest speaker: "Living Well with CLL" and "Recien Diagnosticado Con Cancer - Ahora Que Debo Hacer?" Being able to join in on one of LLS's Spanish-language programs was especially gratifying for me. As a Latino, it was a great way to give back to the Spanish-speaking community from which I came.
