My life has been deeply impacted by blood cancer. I was diagnosed in 2018 with Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL) after visiting the ER with severe leg pains. That moment changed everything and marked the beginning of a journey I never could have imagined.
Since then, I have endured countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. My treatment journey has also included a bone marrow transplant and CAR-T cell therapy. I have faced multiple relapses, including a devastating relapse to my brain. During that time, an Ommaya port was placed on Christmas Eve 2021, my “forever Christmas present,” a reminder of both how far I’ve come and the fight I was still in.
Through every stage of this journey, I made the decision that if I survived, I would dedicate my life to encouraging others to never give up. Today, I am proud to say I am a three-time cancer survivor and 4 years post-transplant.
One of the greatest blessings to come from my journey has been my relationship with Blood Cancer United. I have had the honor of serving as Northeast Florida’s Honored Hero in 2024, and I have also had the privilege of speaking at both the Visionaries of the Year and Student Visionaries of the Year campaigns. Being able to share my story in those spaces has allowed me to put a face to the mission and remind others why this work matters.
I am also a proud participant in Blood Cancer United’s First Connection Program, where I have the opportunity to walk alongside others who are beginning their own blood cancer journey. There is something incredibly powerful about talking with someone who truly understands what you’re experiencing. Sometimes hope begins with a conversation.
Blood Cancer United has given me more than support. It has given me community, purpose, and opportunities to use my story to encourage others. I am grateful to continue serving, advocating, and reminding every patient and caregiver that they are never alone.
