Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

AML Survivor

I was diagnosed with AML on April 24, 1997 at the age of 39. I was married with three young boys, my youngest not yet one year old. I was a commissioned salesman and my wife was a stay-at-home mom to our three sons. A few days after my diagnosis my doctor pulled my wife aside and explained that the odds and the prognosis were not good and that she needed to prepare for the worst outcome.

I was diagnosed on August 28, 1999 with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). I was told at that time that I would not survive the next week.

AML Survivor

In 1989, Marc Smith, was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). He was given a terminal prognosis and for more than two years endured numerous obstacles and setbacks, including two relapses and six extensive rounds of chemotherapy. His only chance of even short-term survival was to have a bone marrow transplant.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) survivor

Kaidyn was only six months old when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). About two months later, he received a bone marrow aspiration and was started on chemotherapy. Over the next ten months, Kaidyn was in and out of Children's Hospital of Oakland. It was there that he took his first steps, said his first words, and even flirted with every nurse in the oncology unit!

In Memory

Hi, my name is Carley and I am an angel.  I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in 1995 and I died in 1996. I was 3 ½ years old when I died and I tried so hard to live, but AML was just so terrible and there weren’t a lot treatments back then. My parents were so sad when I went to heaven.

AML Caregiver

On January 19, 2012, I lost the love of my life to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We were together for 21 years and this was not how our love story was supposed to end. Too young, too soon… still so much to do, to see, to experience – How do you go on? How do you continue life without the other half of you? How do you stop crying in the shower, before the water runs cold?

On Oct. 24, 2011, my husband, Rob Smith, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He had a bad case from the beginning. He was FLT3 positive and had poor cytogenetics. He received so many rounds of treatments I can not keep count.
