acute myeloid leukemia (AML)

My name is Janie, and I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) almost one year ago at 37 years old. I am married with two children and am so happy to be alive today. My story is unique, as is everyone’s; however, mine is special because my sister ended up being my 10/10 identical match, and she saved my life via transplant.

It felt just like any other Saturday after my dad's birthday. He got his annual checkup and bloodwork, and we would all celebrate our April birthdays around Easter Sunday. But this turned into something unlike any other Saturday. His cell phone rang, and everything changed.

acute myeloid leukemia (AML)

On October 29, 2023, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) at the age of 24. Before cancer, I moved through life without a care in the world, living each day like tomorrow was guaranteed. That all changed in an instant.

I am an acute myeloid leukemia (AML) survivor. I am now 10 months post-transplant and feeling stronger every day.
I was born and raised in the Bay Area to South African Indian parents. I hold degrees from UC Berkeley and USC. I have built my career around advocating for equity in tech and marketing services that uplift underrepresented communities.

acute myeloid leukemia (AML)

I am 28 years old and a mother of two. Last year on December 19, 2024, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), an aggressive blood cancer. My world was turned upside down as I had no idea what I would be dealing with or if I was going to make it. Cancer is something no one ever wants to hear.

acute myeloid leukemia (AML)

My stepdad Gary passed away from leukemia on October 18, 2023. He began feeling ill in September 2023 ― lightheaded and dizzy. He took himself to the hospital, and after several weeks of testing, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) on October 3. He was told he could do treatment, and there was a chance to beat it.
