The Co-pay Assistance Program [[toc="Overview"]]
Provideing assistance toward the cost of Private, Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE insurance premiums, and treatment-related co-pays and co-insurance for prescription drugs, labs, scans, tests, etc.
Award levels vary by disease fund.
Available funding
Funding for the Co-pay program is provided by pharmaceutical and biotech companies and is not supported by other sources of revenue including our fundraising campaigns such as Team In Training, Light The Night, Student Series, Leukemia Cup Regatta, Man & Woman of the Year, or Student of the Year. These campaigns support Blood Cancer United patient education, support services, advocacy, and research.
A fund that is “closed” is at maximum capacity, serving those enrolled, and is not enrolling additional patients (new or renewal patients). We do not keep a waitlist and encourage all to continue to check the website for updates.

We can help pay for:
- Medical insurance premiums
- Treatment-related co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance (for expenses covered by the program)
- Co-pays for prescription medication related to prescribed treatment
- Co-pays for non-diagnostic labs, scans, and tests.
Blood Cancer United can pay your provider directly or reimburse you for payments already made. You have complete freedom to choose doctors, providers, suppliers, insurance companies and treatment-related medications. You can make changes to these at any time without affecting your continued eligibility.

To be eligible for Co-pay assistance, you must
- Be a United States citizen or permanent resident and reside in the U.S. or a U.S. territory.
- Members of the U.S. military, diplomats, etc. who may be serving overseas, must have a U.S. address and use it on the application.
- Have a household income that is at or below 600 percent of the U.S. federal poverty guidelines (PDF) as adjusted by the Cost of Living Index (COLI). You will be asked for your zip code to determine your COLI.
- Have medical insurance
- Have a blood cancer diagnosis confirmed by a doctor. Patient must be:
- In active treatment, scheduled to begin treatment, or in active surveillance (watchful waiting). If you do not fall into one of these treatment statuses you may be eligible for assistance with insurance navigation. Click here for help
- For members of the U.S. military, diplomats, etc. who may be serving overseas, the healthcare provider attesting to the diagnosis must have a National Provider Identification (NPI) number and use it on the application.
Approved patients must submit a claim for a covered expense every 90 days to keep their accounts active.

As a charity, Blood Cancer United is exempt from federal income tax and individuals who receive assistance from a charity to meet their personal needs do not generally have to pay federal income tax on the value of the assistance they receive. With this being said it should not affect their ability to receive financial assistance from the government or affect their income taxes.
