Paul Fonteyne is the retired chairman and CEO of Boehringer-Ingelheim USA, where he led the company’s U.S. business through a period of significant growth and portfolio transformation. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including leadership roles at Boehringer-Ingelheim, Merck & Co., and Abbott Laboratories.  

His experience spans global commercial leadership, board governance, and advancing innovation in healthcare. Fonteyne has served on numerous public and private biotech boards and continues to support emerging companies as an executive in residence at Canaan Partners, a venture capital firm focused on healthcare and technology. He has also contributed to industry and nonprofit efforts, including leadership roles with the American Cancer Society and the National Pharmaceutical Council. Fonteyne holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Brussels and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.
