I have high-risk multiple myeloma (MM), diagnosed in 2009, and had my first stem cell transplant in 2010. I relapsed six months later, then had my second stem cell transplant in 2013 (relapsed in four months). Both were autologous because there wasn't a match for me. I have been on various treatment plans for my cancer; however, each of them brought no resolution. In fall 2025 (November 3), I underwent CAR T cell therapy(CARVIYCTI®) at Vanderbilt Hospital. So far, I've had a good response; however, I'm still under the doctor's watch as my progression evolves. I want to be an advocate for my race because it seems that this disease is more prevalent in the African American communities, and it's also harder for African Americans to receive a match.
