Back in January 2023, I began experiencing swelling in my right leg and really thought nothing of it, but I made an appointment with my doctor to be sure. Nothing was found at the time, so we brushed it off.
In February, I noticed it had gotten bigger and harder for me to walk, so I went to the ER, and they ran tests. They ruled out fluid and sent me home.
March rolls around, and I'm at the point where I can hardly stand, so I ended up switching doctors, and she was on the case immediately. She took some blood and requested a biopsy around the groin area so she could be certain of what was going on.
The results came back stage 3 Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). I was devastated and scared. Not knowing my lymph nodes were swollen in my neck, groin, and leg the whole time was the cause of this disease. I started chemo about a month after getting my port put in, and boy, it was a journey.
All the sick days, could hardly eat, I wanted to give up. I looked at my boys every day because they gave me hope that I could beat this. Six months later, on October 12, 2023, I got the privilege to ring the victory bell. I am now going on two years in remission and feel great!
