When I was diagnosed in 2002 I was in such a fog, all that I can really remember is the doctor saying "You have..." I had acute myeloid leukemia and given 6 weeks to live. I just felt that could not be the end for me.

I went through the chemo, hospital stays all while trying to raise 4 small children and I made it through it all. Thank goodness, right? Fast forward to 2017 the day after my 48th birthday. I began to feel weak and extremely fatigued, without trying to "self- diagnose" myself, this feeling was all too familiar.

My family rushed me to the hospital and once again I would be diagnosed with the same type of Leukemia ! I thought this time surely this was it for me. But the hospital staff (and my family of course) were so inspiring and supportive that I began to take on an attitude of positivity.

I fought a lot and took on attitude of "Nothing will beat me!" After 2 years of rigorous chemotherapy, radiation, and even more hospital stays, my middle son was found to be a match and I received a Bone Marrow Transplant on February 1, 2019.

This is why it is important to me to give back to other cancer patients/survivors. We all deal with our own journey, but I believe that the attitude in which we have while on that journey will help us get through our particular journey.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has been a huge part of my positive journey by offering resources and being able to hear testimonials from caregivers, patients and health care professionals. I will always show my gratitude by offering my assistance to anyone that I can.
