In January 2022, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and given a 20% chance of survival. I went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy, hospital stays, and a stem cell transplant, thanks to my brother being a rare 100% match. I set one mission to be discharged in time for my son’s high school graduation.
Every day in the hospital, I walked the halls with an IV pole covered in handkerchiefs, one for each lap I completed. On May 23, I was discharged. On May 25, I stood to watch my son walk the stage.
This journey tested my body, mind, and spirit — but it also reminded me of the power of purpose, discipline, and faith.
